What the heck is that? It looks almost alien -- and I don't mean introduced from another continent.

If you mean to inquire as to what plant those flowers are on, it's Common Rue--host plant for both Giant Swallowtails and Eastern Blacks. If you mean the little brown globes, those are eggs of the Giant Swallowtail.

Oh! I did not realize that the orange orbs were not part of the plant. I'm not familiar with "Common Rue". It does not grow around here...or I simply have not seen it.

It is native to the Balkan Peninsula. It is grown throughout the world in gardens, especially for its bluish leaves, and sometimes for its tolerance of hot and dry soil conditions.
