There has recently been a huge rush of people trying out Mastodon. I love it. This is also noticeable in the number of people reading my earlier Mastodon Guide. I wanted to take this opportunity to provide a brief list of usage tips that I wish I had at hand when first setting up my Mastodon home.

Thanks for this! Been on mastodon for a while and I was today years old when I realised the federated timeline requires someone from your instance to follow someone for their toots to show up. Good stuff!

Thank you for this. I've already linked one server to another server so starting to settle in here already. I'll peruse your guide avidly.

this is great. I read this when I joined earlier this year.
It confirmed my feeling that it's fine to unfollow people frequently.

You may not be a newby but this is a good explainer for newby's. I personally prefer friendica because I can interact with all the fediverse including diaspora where the G+ refugees went to, as well as the fact that I can filter twitter through it and purge out all the garbage.
