Whenever I'd see those weird data points with my wrist-based heart rate while running I'd think to myself that it was either a sensor sampling issue or maybe some weird thing with acceleration. I never really studied it though. Turns out it's something called cadence lock. Maybe I'll go back to using a chest strap again for runs. #running

great article- confirms what suspect is happening to my Garmin, which thinks my heart rate is in zone one, when I’m at zone 4/5 trying to haul myself up a peak on my mountain runs. I’ll try it with a chest strap in future 👍

I imagine this also is part of the reason that my Garmin calls every run I’ve done “easy” in the power zone chart

wrist based HR is terrible. The wrist might be the worst place in the body to try and sample HR :D
