Yes there can be gray area. Too many times bigots try to invent a gray area rationalization for why they aren't *really* being discriminatory or hateful. If all you do all day is beat up on some minority, intentionally call them inappropriate names, talk about how shitty it is people try to accommodate them, and then end with "it's not like I'm saying we should exterminate them or something" as some false boundary on egregious behavior you aren't somewhere in the gray area. I'm also over this obsession with "woke" as if the right wing is sitting there in some rational position on these issues. The "make sure people aren't being coerced into thinking they are trans" has now been that in Texas parents who support their trans teens have child protective services coming for them. The opposite of "don't teach kids that American history is all bad since it is not" has become calling slavery "Involuntary Relocation". I could go on, I already mentioned the blow back issues on the Florida "Don't Say Gay" bill which was built around an invented problem of teaching preschoolers about sex, which no one was doing and Democrats put a specific bill forward to say that was illegal but Republicans rebuffed it because that was never the point in the first place.
