I know some of you totally hate all #CountryMusic. I grew up with mostly old timey & some contemporary country music because my Mom enjoyed that & pop music. Dad was more of a blues & rock person. Mom discovered Alan Jackson in early 90s. She loved getting Dad, me & my brothers to dance & sing along to Itty Bitty, at our past annual BBQ Summer backyard bash, before we started yard games fun.
I miss dancing with my Dad - he only danced with Mom & me - his whole life.

@claralistensprechen3rd I loved this song as a kid in the NYC area. We didn’t even have a country station on any radio band at the time but it was top 40 so they played it.

One of my elementary school teachers introduced it to me, when I was 11 years old 🥰

@claralistensprechen3rd One of my two best friends in childhood was black & she LOVED #KennyRogers a lot. She used to belt out - The Gambler - a lot, just randomly. It's her very fave song ❤️
It's quite likely she still has this, on a VHS tape. She used to VCR record Kenny Rogers when he was performing anywhere on TV - she'd check the TV Guide & the mark dates/times in advance.

@claralistensprechen3rd She used to get upset, when anyone said: Black people don't like country music.
She'd shout to strangers: "I'm as black as midnight & I love Kenny Rogers' music! It's racist to think we only like blues, soul & rap! I like country music & so do some other black people." - usually right before she started belting out, The Gambler, to some shocked white people & it was even funnier, when she did it in front of a bunch of black folks.

Maybe that's the Country that Rogers went when he sang Islands In The Stream with Dolly Parton, but truth is he didn't have much of a twang. Alan Jackson, on the other hand...well...

I absolutely LOVE this song & play it multiple times, every Summer!

I like that the lyrics included the respect of essential consent, needed by a woman too 👍

My dear Dad loved Alan Jackson. He liked some of the 90's country. This makes me 😀 He's been gone for 10 years, tbh
