in reply to Molly White • • •lovely! nice to hear about molly's experience with POSSE. asynchronous, threaded, text-based interaction is like an old NES game - from the 80s and still really hard.
seems especially difficult to solve the problem of either running your own AP server and dealing with data retention/moderation yourself, or syndicating and having fragmented, potentially repetitive conversations everywhere. will be interesting to see what circle-squarers people build in the coming years.

I really have hard time to understand why every technology must be bent around the non-sensical word #contentcreator...
Who cares about "content creators" ... For me "content creators" means publishing superficial & arguable topics with very low budget on the internet... WOW... Super... 😑
It looks like we (not exactly me) are all addicted to consume content on the internet that we can't live without "content creators" . 🤦♂️
For me "content creators" are another symptom of the #Fediverse #enshittification, because they are a product of the "nasty social media" to let people sticking in front of a screen.
If you are against the "nasty social media" the last thing that you want on the Fediverse are the "content creators" .
Please save the Fediverse from "content creators" ... 🙏

in reply to ❄️ freezr ❄️ • • •@freezr We do have a bad habit in the tech world of calling people "users" and stories "content" and artists "creators". This kind of shorthand is often used to make it easier when building or discussing products but risks overly simplifying or categorizing.
When I use the phrase "content creator" I'm referring to people like bloggers, vloggers, and podcasters who often tell stories in a way that is deeply rooted in their passion or expertise. I think these are people who I think should be celebrated in the fediverse and given an opportunity to subsidize their work so that can be sustainable.

I blame the social media companies that intentionally conflated the terms "content" and "copy" because while nobody wants to make copy for free, that's exactly what content becomes when it's shared to a for-profit social media platform.
The companies don't care if you're "connecting with an audience" they only care that you're influencing that audience's behavior (the definition of copy).

I recall instead that "Youtubers" started to call themselves content creators because it was cooler than say youtubers...
Also other platforms like Odysse were created to please the content creators, imbued with all the fancy stuff like cryptobullshit.
I don't really buy what you're stating, there was the complicity of all the parts involved.
What it looks to me is that YT and the other medium failed as source of revenue streams and #contentcreator are looking desperately other forms way, but those already exist, there are plenty of platforms where you can pay them if you wish, there's no need to convert the Fediverse for their needs...
The problem is that there isn't a market for the #contentcreators since there isn't a demand, they have been a tool for some platforms to increase their engagement, outside of this platforms nobody cares about them since there are other historical medium which are just well-established.
