I would be more than happy to pay a one-time fee to have my identity verified on a social media platform. But what on earth justifies a continued monthly payment that? (And this is about Instagram, not Twitter, because Twitter "verification" doesn't even come with THAT haha.)

in reply to Dr. Casey Fiesler • • •Twitter is doing it in the most crude way, antagonizing everyone, Elon style, but... if it doesn't end horribly and quickly, I think the others will go for it. After all, major newspapers are fully behind paywalls now, they made it work.
