I don't mind talking about politics face to face, but online discussions never feel like they achieve anything other than getting people worked up and giving people a venue to try to insult someone else for disagreeing with them. It just seems like pointless bickering that doesn't actually change anyone's opinion... and I get that some people do enjoy that type of fighting, but I'm not one who does. That's why I avoid online discussions about politics.
Yeah, I'm sure online activism does yield results. My comments were based on my personal experience the few times when I have engaged with someone else on a political issue. I don't think political conversations should be silenced or suppressed. It's just not what I personally enjoy doing on social media, but that doesn't mean other people can't or shouldn't.
I think it's fair to say that many people can't handle a minimum of criticism and the risk of social rejection it implies, as "political" is seen as "partisan" and hence picking a side
need civics in school at early age. Getting kids to understand politics is about all of us making the rules of society. And we all need to participate in order to negate those who use the system for power.
