Read an article today about why Americans think alcohol has health benefits and it's apparently another "well the French are healthy and they do X so it's healthy to do X."

So here's your periodic reminder that France (and Italy, and Sweden, and Japan, and basically every country you've seen in a "this country is so healthy, what's their secret?" headline) has universal health care.

The secret is access to health care. It's always access to health care.

also... all the news articles saying that red wine / moderate alcohol are good for your heart?

I mean, just look at those cited here: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/265799#risks

it may be wrong, but it's not just general self-delusion of the public.

That's one factor and a big one...but lifestyle is also an important factor....living to work like the U.S. culture centers around is opposite of working to live...also WALKING...so much more walking in those countries...village life...fresh food ...high carb, low protein diets lead to longevity NOT hight protein-our processed food/fast food consumption... in genlour failure to ban food dyes like every other country has done for decades, failure to ban pesticides, GMOs etc etc etc

True...and diet. Scientists have found Italy's diet high in carbs is actually better for you than a lot of protein. 2 scientists studying the blue zone in Italy....Sardinia....said you only need 5 grams of protein per day. Also, they WALK....and often up and down steep streets.

As Americans, we moved to a country with universal healthcare and started drinking (a bit) more.

So, I guess, living the dream?
