i ran into a full-on, drunk-on-koolaid AI believer the other day. i realised something striking.
the way they justified their belief in chatgpt’s sentience, agency, and intelligence was cobbled together from uprooted disparate scientific factoids stretched across category errors into something shaped very much like a plausible argument on the surface, but so substantially incoherent it was not even wrong.
it was uncannily like chatgpt output.

at first blush this annoyed me as a way for Uber to siphon off benefit money, and it is that.
It also might be able to combat the problem of people in the vast food deserts who have no cars.
I think that benifit could be worth it.

If you think about the economics of the news business, can you think of a single incentive that an outlet would have to run with “Biden is favored to win re-election” as a top story?
Yeah, me neither. Might want to keep that in mind when looking at election coverage.

@amiserabilist People hate me for this, but as someone who used to be less embarrassed to say "Asperger's" instead of "autistic," I speak up when I see the term.
Pre WWII, Asperger belonged to organizations with strong Pan-German and anti-Semitic leanings,. He referred to his patients as "autistic psychopaths," helped legitimize "racial hygience," and clearly collaborated with Nazis in Vienna.
We should normalize the term "autism."
Fuck Nazis.
