Is it just me, or is David Pecker the most appropriately named jackass since Robin Leach?

no joke. My mom was a nurse. She had a patient named Harold Palms and another named Harold Balls.

Why people think that is funny when naming their kid is beyond me.

And then there's the supreme Dick, Tim Allen, whose middle name is Allen and his last name, fittingly is literally Dick.

So, Tim Allen really is a Dick.

in reply to Laffy

My high school principal's name was Richard Little. He did, in fact, go by “Dick”. That said, the obvious jokes weren't common as far as I recall either because the slang wasn't in the same place it is today or because they wouldn't have landed well -- he was a big man in every sense of the word (and a really good guy).

I am so fucking mad at #SCOTUS right now. Had an elderly loved one on my couch in tears today. They had a brain fart and wrote the 22 from today's date in the year box of the signature section of their mail in #ballot envelope. They marked a 4 over it but still worry the ballot will get tossed.

I helped them call the election office but the lady who answered the phone could not provide another envelope. All I could do was fill out the witness part and hope they get a kind person processing it.

in reply to acm

@acm_redfox Thanks, me too. My brother and I just got back from shuttling our neighborhood seniors to the ballot drop box. I hope our call to the election office and my witness signature will work in their favor and their ballot counts.

@Jeffrey Vagle Tesla went from one of the safest cars to one of the most dangerous after marketing it as auto-pilot, then for no reason other than to make money, stripping out the lidar and ultrasonic detectors. My Nissan leaf has more advanced safety features than an expensive Tesla.

@quinn this is fantastic! I worry that our SCOTUS will overturn it as bad for their investors, though.

I first foughtt the hasbarites on The American Prospect's discussion forum. They made it so poisonous that TAP shut it down. A bunch of us migrated to a FOSS forum site and established TAP Alternative which ran for a few years.
in reply to br00t4c

What doesn't seem to be mentioned there is whether the aid package included offensive weapons or strictly defensive. It's kind of an important distinction.

Weird that Bill Gates also went this same personality change to rewrite his public image after two decades of being an utter piece of shit too.

Never underestimate the role insurance coverage plays in both legal settlements and post-settlement personnel decisions.

Read an article today about why Americans think alcohol has health benefits and it's apparently another "well the French are healthy and they do X so it's healthy to do X."

So here's your periodic reminder that France (and Italy, and Sweden, and Japan, and basically every country you've seen in a "this country is so healthy, what's their secret?" headline) has universal health care.

The secret is access to health care. It's always access to health care.

in reply to juliadream

@juliadream In case you don't get context this is the right wing argument at its . This is not what I or the writer of the cartoon believe. The point of satire is to shine a light or an argument and take it to its absurd logical conclusion. I might have been instablocked though due to Poe's law.

Airlines in the US now required “to promptly provide passengers with automatic cash refunds when owed because their flights are cancelled or significantly changed, their checked bags are significantly delayed, or the ancillary services, like Wi-Fi, they purchased are not provided.” - DoT https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/airline-customer-service-dashboard
in reply to Steve Herman

Seeing the new Airline Refund rule alongside the new No Non-Compete rules, I can't help but think the Biden administration is trying to show people that they are ready and able to push back against the rapacious form of capitalism that has come to dominate our business culture.

(Have I told you how much I love the phrase "wasteful competition"? :-)

Kind of like a slightly more calibrated Mafia bust-out, then?
in reply to Ann Lipton

@Ann Lipton The republicans in the state of Indiana did something similar. They would always pay their contractors late at the end of the fiscal year so their budget looked way better based on cash on hand giving a false impression that they were being fiscally conservative.
