Lots of people say "kill it with fire", but few of them supply me with a gyrocopter armed with a flame thrower, to do it with.

I don't understand this podcast hype. I don't have time and want to listen to people talking for hours

@anubis2814 Agree totally but talk about a low bar. Tik Tok seems to be trying to give Facebook a run for their money too...

Ditto and ditto...as I wrote recently (I think to a post you had)...I have not successfully converted a single person over to the fediverse in all my years here :(. Best I can get is for them to make an account and dabble.

...this reminds me, I want to write a new part of the Friendica UI that lets you search all your "interactions" so it's easy to see a timeline of what you commented on and liked. It'd also help you find stuff in your own posts.

It’s been a year since I stopped using Facebook. I miss the positive connections with people, but those were vanishingly few. Mostly it was people bitching or content I that wasn’t relevant in FB’s attempt to show me more ads. The underlying manipulation to enhance Meta’s profits was too blatant.

@Brad Koehn ☑️ I had mostly positive experiences on Facebook. My problem with them is about the behavior of the company and the artifacts for the world. Granted I sometimes had to resort to using Newsfeed Eradicator etc. but that was more to help get me out of my dopamine hit cycle.

You are in luck, I started a series just on that topic. I am now immersed in a project so I didn't get around to writing the "setup a local dev machine" version of this tutorial. But it gives you an idea. I should probably try to crank that out though and finish my developer tutorial series. You can search for Friendica tags for more similar links. https://nequalsonelifestyle.com/2022/07/30/creating-friendica-server-ubuntu/

For the dev instance this is the first step. Then it's just checking out the source code into the /var/www/html directory like in the production instance and using "localhost" for everything instead of a host name. https://nequalsonelifestyle.com/2022/08/08/setting-up-apache-php-with-xdebug/

I'm on Matrix in the Friendica board up there for a more interactive assistance.

@anubis2814 Yeah for sure me taking most of a year off and only dabbling now I don't get fed much good content. I mostly just go to my home page, post something, interact with people that react to that, maybe go check out their profile after that etc. I guess that means I'm avoiding the algorithm at this point.

I deleted FB years ago, and my life got dramatically better without the constant algorithmic demands for attention from bots
